A parent's worst nightmare became a reality earlier this month when an 11-year-old girl was abducted after interacting with an adult on the popular online game platform Roblox. This incident is a stark reminder of the unlikely but genuine dangers lurking in the virtual world.
The girl had been chatting with someone she believed was another young gamer on Roblox. But her new "friend" turned out to be an adult with bad intentions. The girl was kidnapped in a disturbing turn of events, prompting a swift police response. Fortunately, she was recovered safely around 135 miles from her home. The perpetrator was expedited and is currently in custody.
We talk a lot about the risks of kids using the internet and social media, but we still need to dig deeper into the dangers of online gaming. Although most of the same rules of conduct apply (don't share personal information, don't swap photos, etc.), there are some specifics to keep in mind if you let your child play games like Roblox (SafeWise parents say no).
