When we tested medical alert systems from GetSafe versus Aloe Care Health, we found GetSafe’s voice activation easier to use. But that was one of the few categories in which GetSafe outperformed Aloe Care Health, the runaway winner for mobile devices, caregiver features, and fall detection.

That said, there’s no denying that GetSafe’s in-home medical alert system is one of the most affordable in the industry and perfect for adding a help button to every room in your home. Learn more about the differences between Aloe Care Health versus GetSafe to choose the best one for you.

GetSafe vs. Aloe Care Health differences

Best test performance: Aloe Care Health

We tested equipment from GetSafe and Aloe Care Health to find out which one works best in real life.

We not only set up the equipment in our homes but also placed test calls to the monitoring center, tracked the location of the mobile devices, and tested the limits of voice activation.

Aloe Care Health performed better than GetSafe in the following ways:

  • Better audio quality: The monitor sounded crystal-clear through Aloe Care’s Smart Hub speaker, whereas the GetSafe speaker crackled and had some distortion.
  • Easier call cancellation: Our GetSafe test calls still went through even when we thought we’d canceled them. All Aloe Care calls were canceled successfully.
  • Better caregiver app: The Aloe Care Health app had way more features, including motion alerts and the ability to call your loved one’s Smart Hub.
  • Better location tracking: Although both mobile devices gave accurate location readings, we preferred Aloe Care Health’s nifty satellite view and driving directions.

GetSafe surpassed Aloe Care Health in these categories:

  • Easier voice activation: You have to say GetSafe’s wake word (“Call 911”) twice, whereas Aloe Care’s wake word (“Emergency”) has to be said at least four times.
  • Faster answer times: On average, GetSafe’s monitors answered our calls nine seconds faster than Aloe Care’s monitors.

A note on answer times

We measured response time from the moment we pressed the button to the moment someone greeted us on the line. Aloe Care Health’s Smart Hub always confirms that you need help before starting the call.

This confirmation eats into its response time. Regardless, Aloe Care answered all of our calls within 50 seconds.

Best mobile price: Aloe Care Health

If you’re interested in a mobile medical alert system, you’ll get a better price through Aloe Care Health.

You can’t buy a GetSafe mobile medical alert system without an in-home system and an extra mobile monitoring fee. This means you’ll pay at least $178 for equipment plus $47.95 per month for in-home and on-the-go coverage.

On the other hand, you can buy Aloe Care Health’s Mobile Companion for $99 plus a $29.99 monthly monitoring fee.

The Aloe Care Health app is included with monitoring, whereas GetSafe charges an extra $5 per month for its app. Aloe Care Health also offers free shipping for all of its packages—GetSafe doesn’t.

Best in-home price: GetSafe

GetSafe’s pricing structure for an in-home system is totally unique among medical alert companies: you pay a flat monthly fee regardless of how much in-home equipment you buy. And best of all, that monthly fee is an affordable $27.95.

GetSafe’s in-home equipment is also cheaper than Aloe Care’s. For example, GetSafe’s Starter package is comparable to Aloe Care’s Essentials package but costs $70 less.

GetSafe’s also the better choice for spouse coverage: it’s free to register your spouse’s information on your account. On the other hand, Aloe Care Health requires a separate paid account for spouses.

Budget at least another $12 in shipping fees if you choose GetSafe. Expedited shipping is available at around $40.

Best automatic fall detection: Aloe Care Health

Aloe Care Health wins this category by default because GetSafe doesn’t offer an in-home fall detection device. Your only option for fall detection with GetSafe is to buy a mobile device and pay an extra $10 for fall detection.

On the other hand, Aloe Care Health’s Mobile Companion always comes with fall detection. No need to pay extra.

Plus, Aloe Care Health offers a unique fall detection sensor that mounts to the bathroom wall. It’s also a second voice-activated base station, but its main function is to sense that you’re immobile on the floor.

Best accessories: GetSafe

GetSafe sells wall buttons, extra pendants, lockboxes, and Vial of Life  forms for a one-time fee rather than inflating the monthly price with each addition. Aloe Care doesn’t offer any of these accessories.

There’s also no limit to how many extra help buttons you add to your GetSafe system. Buy however many you need to cover all the danger zones in your home.

On the other hand, Aloe Care Health is the only medical alert company selling motion sensors that let loved ones check on your activity through the app. If you haven’t walked past a motion sensor in a while, they’ll know to call you and make sure you’re okay. They can even patch through the Smart Hub speaker automatically and talk to you even if you can’t get up to answer the phone.

Best signal range: GetSafe

The GetSafe pendant (left) looks sleeker than the Aloe Care Health pendant (right) and also has a longer signal range.

Images: Cathy Habas, SafeWise

GetSafe’s pendants and wall buttons work within 1,300 feet of the base station. Aloe Care’s pendant works within 200 feet.

This is a significant difference, but there are a few things to be aware of before writing off Aloe Care as a possibility. First, the base station of any medical alert system should be located in a central area.

Think about where that is in your home. Now measure the central area to the furthest corner of your home. It’s probably well under 200 feet.

The extra signal range provided by GetSafe is helpful if you need to walk to the mailbox or you want to sit out on the patio. It’s more convenient to just go outside rather than to stop and put on the mobile device. That said, you can get around the smaller in-home range by getting into the habit of wearing the mobile system before going outside.

Winner: Aloe Care Health beats GetSafe

All in all, we recommend Aloe Care Health unless you want to place buttons throughout your home. If that’s a top priority, GetSafe is an excellent option.

Aloe Care Health triumphs over GetSafe in terms of fall detection, caregiver resources, mobile pricing, and testing performance. But GetSafe’s better in-home price, accessories, and signal range make it a worthy choice too.
