Family 1st GPS Tracker: Track just about anything

With most GPS trackers, they're limited to tracking one type of thing. There are senior trackers, kid trackers, car trackers . . . This tracker, on the other hand, tries to do it all.

It features:

  • Geofencing, so you can get alerts when the person you're tracking gets too far away.
  • Realtime tracking since a delay can mean a lot when it comes to a wayward toddler.
  • Tracking history (that lasts up to a year) to see if your teen has been places they shouldn't have been.
  • Email and text alerts so you're always in the know.
  • Update customization so you get notified as often as you need.

What it doesn't have is features that make it work for a specific need. For example, it doesn't have fall detection for seniors. And it doesn't have a way to strap it to a wiggly toddler that loves to empty their pockets in the sandbox.

Family 1st GPS Tracker installation

This tracker is a small rectangle that is about a quarter of the size of your phone.

Installation of the Family 1st GPS Tracker couldn't be easier. First, you set up an account and download the app. Then, you activate your subscription and you're ready to go.

The tracker doesn't have a way to strap it to an object, but you can slide it into a car door pocket, inside a backpack or in a pocket. You can also get a magnetic case (sold separately) to stick the tracker on the underside of a bumper or wheel panel.

Family 1st GPS Tracker App

The Family 1st GPS Tracker app (Google Play and Apple Store) has some handy features worth pointing out.

Maybe our favorite is that it alerts you when the battery on the tracker is getting low. This comes in clutch for those of us who have a hard time remembering to charge our smart tech.

Another key feature is that you can find the location of the tracker, no matter if it's across the country or across the park. The maps on the app have super detailed information. You can view the location through a map view, satellite view (you can see surrounding buildings and landmarks) and a hybrid view.

The tracking details are impressive, too. You can see:

  • Where to find the cheapest gas options nearby.
  • How many miles the tracker went.
  • How fast the tracker was going (ideal if you have a teen with a lead foot).

Final word

The Family 1st GPS Tracker is a good pick if you're looking for an easy-to-use tracker with real-time tracking. While its subscription plan is a little pricier than some of its competitors, the 2-week battery life and low battery alerts may make up for it.
