Best overall

SimpliSafe

We got to see a demo of SimpliSafe’s Active Guard Outdoor monitoring featuring its new Outdoor Camera. And let me tell you—it’s awesome! SimpliSafe has trained all of its live monitors who operate from SimpliSafe’s exclusive monitoring center. We always prefer proactive security over reactive, and this is as proactive as you can get!

Video search

Ring

Say goodbye to endless scrolling through video footage to find that potential porch pirate or cute antic by your kiddo! Smart Video Search lets you search for anything—we tried it out and were impressed with its accuracy. This feature is in beta right now, but we can’t wait for the complete rollout. Best of all, you don't need to upgrade to get it!

24/7 recording

Reolink

Reolink’s Altas PT Ultra was the first battery-powered security camera with 24/7 recording for up to four days. CES unveiled the new Altas series that pushes recording time to 7 full days! Each camera includes a solar panel, needing just two hours of sunlight daily for non-stop recording. No constant recharging required!

Best to fight porch pirates

Hyve smart package delivery pod

With 120 million packages swiped in 2023, we're always on the lookout for ways to keep your goods out of package thieves' hands. The Hyve package delivery pod just might be the end of our search. This is by far the most advanced (and easy-to-use) personal package delivery locker we've seen. We got a full demo and can't wait until this baby is available to everyone!

Honorable mentions: Home security

TP-Link/Tapo

Upgraded cameras

Tapo's got a slew of dual-lens cameras with smart AI. One of my faves is the Dual-Lens Smart Baby Camera, which is so smart its AI can tell if your baby's face is obstructed—a game changer!

GHome

Palm biometrics

GHome has a smart deadbolt that uses palm vein recognition—the most secure biometric out there! I can't get into the science here, but palm recognition is cutting-edge, and so is this lock.

The Winners: Family safety

Safe kids ecosystem

myFirst

I was floored to find this entire ecosystem of kid-safe tech that I’d never seen before! If you’ve been fighting with your kiddos about getting an iPad, myFirst may be the compromise you’ve been looking for. From digital cameras to smartwatches and a kid-safe social media network, myFirst is ready to help introduce the digital world to your kid safely.

Shoe GPS tracker

Kokasin

You know I love a GPS tracker, and this insole by Kokasin is one of the most innovative I’ve seen in a while. Touted as the only insole GPS tracker designed for kids and adults with developmental disabilities or dementia, this is one tracker that will stay put. That means your loved one won’t lose it, and bad actors won’t know it's there!

I can vouch for the Kokasin GPS insole feeling pretty cushy! So it'll keep you safe and comfy.

BP monitor

Charmcare

Monitoring your blood pressure is important, but it's not always easy or convenient. This wearable blood pressure monitor by Charmcare has won a slew of CES Innovation Awards, and we can see why! Keeping track of your blood pressure has never been easier. No more excuses to track it as often as your doctor advises.

This clever wearable blood pressure monitor was one of the first things to catch my eye!

Ear protection

Onanoff

As the parent of a child who noticed hearing loss in their late teens, I know how important it is to protect little ears. These days, kids of all ages are using headphones—in the car, on an airplane, or even at a restaurant. And we all cringe at those that don’t, right? Enter Onanoff’s BuddyPhones with limited decibels and StoryPhones that entertain without a screen.

Smart baby AI

Ellie

Ellie's Baby Safety AI™ technology can do it all: detect crying and breathing, analyze your baby's sleep patterns, and let you know if baby's face is covered. You can also set up a virtual fence, so if you have an escape artist (something we know a little bit about!), you'll know the minute they make a break for it. And everything is stored locally—so there is no chance of it getting hacked!

A demo of how Ellie's Baby Plus cameras can detect things like a blanket on the baby's face.

Safety button

Buddy of Parents

If you don't like the idea of a medical alert device that you have to wear on your wrist or around your neck, the Buddy of Parents (BOP) safety button is right up your alley. Originally designed for government use in Singapore, the BOP button is branching out into personal use. All it takes is a push of the button and you're connected to help. We hope it comes to the US soon!

I like the simplicity of this safety button that can help younger and older alike.

Best age tech ally

AARP

AARP really impressed with its AgeTech Collaborative! Tech positively impacted the quality of life for my grandmother and father, and I'm so glad it will be there to help me as I'm on my way.

This one-stop shop of resources, innovation, and support is phenomenal. If you have older loved ones or are noticing needs yourself, I can't recommend AARP's powerhouse of information and helpful tech enough—here's to living a safer, more independent life!

Honorable mentions: Family safety

iSleep Pad

Sleep health monitoring

This no-contact, non-wearable pad monitors breathing, heart rate, and overall sleep health. The pad can be used with any family member—from the crib to a California King.

Tonies

Screen-free kids tech

Screen-free options for learning and entertainment can be hard to find these days. Tonies are safe tech that aims to encourage reading, and there's no screen time or internet to worry about!

The Winners: Smart Home

Cozy smart tech

DREO

DREO grabbed my eye with its clean design and array of sleek smart home tech to cover your whole home. From space heaters and humidifiers to air fryers and advanced water purifiers, DREO delivers smart home convenience and comfort. It gives Dyso n a run for the money—and DREO is a fraction of the price! We'll be testing and getting you more insights into what DREO offers.

We just happened to be there when DREO won a Breakthrough award at CES 2025.

Smart thermostat

Honeywell

Smart thermostats aren't new, but Honeywell may have the smartest one I've seen. It stands out because it looks like the thermostat I've used for years. I think this simple design that gives you everything you're accustomed to in a thermostat is a breakthrough! I strongly recommend the X2S Smart Thermostat for Airbnb rentals—everyone will know how to use it!

Installation is easy—this clever mount will work for this thermostat and any other!

Smartest button

Flic

If you struggle to pull up the right app for each smart home gadget you have, Flic is the answer. This smart button controls your whole smart home—and all you have to do is push the button or twist it. It's the perfect solution if you have things like smart lights in your kiddo's room. My niece has to have access to Dad's phone to control hers. With Flic she could control her lights on her own.

We got a demo of the Flic Smart Button. I love the twist-action to dim lights or control volume.

The Winners: Pet safety

Smart pet tracker

Tractive

Tractive has been one of our favorite pet trackers for a while. Now, Tractive is stepping up with health monitoring and tracking for your four-legged friends. The Tracytive Dog 6 delivers real-time location tracking and activity and sleep monitoring. Most exciting to me—it also tracks barking! Not only can this let you know if your pup is keeping all the neighbors on alert, but it can give you insights into stress levels.

Bright LED lights make it easier than ever to spot your pooch in the wild.

Secure pet door

Pawport

I've always thought that pet doors present a security risk, but thanks to Pawport, we don't have to worry about that anymore! Not only is this a smart pet door that uses a tag on a pet's collar to let them in and out (no strangers getting in!), but this pet door is also bulletproof. Seriously. We saw one that had been shot, and no bullets made it through. They also had a sledgehammer you could swing at it—and it held up.

A look at the bulletproof Pawport smart pet door. I love a pet door that's got security in mind.

Robot playmate

Enabot

Enabot's ROLA Mini Pet Monitor is a robot that does double-duty as a pet cam and playmate. Because the robot can go anywhere your pet does, you won't have any more blindspots when trying to check on your furry friends. We saw these cuties in action; they looked like a lot of fun. And ROLA robot companions have all the features you want in a pet cam—two-way talk, 2K resolution, and infrared night vision.

There was a whole field of Enabots rolling around CES. I like that you can tie on a cat toy.

How we chose the Best of CES awards for 2025

Me at CES 2025
Image: Rebecca Edwards, SafeWise

We've tested and evaluated safety and smart home tech for over a decade—and we've been going to CES since 2018. This year, we decided to share the safety and smart home tech that got us excited. We included four categories: home security, family safety, smart home, and pet safety.

To pick our winners, we looked for tech and innovations that we hadn't seen before or that elevated reliable safety favorites. Here's a look at the criteria that went into our picks:

  • Features or services that solve a problem related to safety, security, convenience, or comfort.
  • Upgraded capabilities like dual-lens cameras and features like smart video search.
  • Proactive security innovations.
  • Tech that impacts safety across the lifespan (from babies to grandparents).
  • Brands that told us that safety or security was a priority in designing their products or services.

It would be impossible to showcase everything that blew my mind at CES 2025, but the products and services that earned our Best of CES awards best embody the criteria and intention we were looking for. The companies we're honoring stand out as leaders when it comes to using technology to help us all create safer lives at home and in our communities.

Who we are

We believe that safety is a lifestyle. Our passion is to make safety accessible and easy for everyone.
