Artificial intelligence is being jammed into just about every piece of tech released these days, and while most of it is, well, questionable, Aussie security company Swann has been doing some interesting (and actually useful) stuff with language learning models—namely, its AI SwannShield.
Debuting at last year’s CES, SwannShield effectively works as a middle man between you and your visitor. Originally made available for its video doorbells, it’s a voice assistant that can receive and direct deliveries while you’re out, greet visitors, and even handle unwanted guests with personalised, real-time responses.
It’s been a hit with Swann video doorbell users, but for the first time, SwannShield is coming to security cameras. Announced at CES this week, the Xtreem 4K with SwannShield AI Defender is a wireless, battery-powered security camera that can detect heat, motion and people, and using generative AI, can trigger alerts, sirens, and even realistically talk to visitors on your behalf. It can identify a visitor’s intentions and escalate any security concerns that may arise.
The SwannShield AI can communicate in many languages, with multiple accents available and even three “demeanours” (polite, disinterested and assertive), so you can make it sound as realistic as any other household member. Each interaction is recorded and a transcript made available via the app, so you can catch up on any missed visitors any time you like.
Currently, there’s no word on when the Xtreem 4K with SwannShield AI Defender will land in Australia, but for those wanting to give the AI tech a go, it’s available to try now with the Swann EVO Wireless Video Doorbell ($159.95) and the SwannBuddy 4K Wireless Video Doorbell ($299.95).
