Boasting a generous weight range, six carry positions, extra lumbar support, and a handy zippered pocket, the LILLEbaby Complete All Seasons baby carrier is hands-down the most versatile option on the market. And it's not even the most expensive.

But the LILLEbaby is best for short-term use since it hasn't been certified as "hip-friendly" by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. It's also not the easiest to adjust or the one parents rave about when it comes to baby comfort.

1. LILLEbaby Complete All Seasons: Best baby carrier overall

Best overall
Lillebaby-All-Seasons-Baby-Carrier

With six carrying positions and pockets for storage, the LILLEbaby All Seasons carrier is an excellent choice for babywearing. It also boasts a wider waist belt for better lumbar support and can support an older baby up to about 20 kilos.

The All Seasons is bulkier than most, so it may be harder to keep with you when you’re on the go. It also features a mesh design for breathability, but we read mixed reviews about the mesh fabric irritating babies' skin.

2. Ergobaby Omni 360: Best baby carrier for comfort

Best for comfort

Price is accurate as of post date. Read full disclaimer.

The extremely comfortable Ergobaby 360 Baby Carrier requires an infant insert for a newborn baby, but parents say it’s worth the extra cost. Comfort was something many reviewers noted for all four carrying positions, regardless of the length of time it was worn.

This soft structured mesh carrier also includes a hood to cover a napping baby and a detachable pouch for quick storage. Durable and washable, the Ergobaby carrier can be used from your very first days with your newborn into early toddlerhood.

3. Infantino Flip 4-in-1: Best baby carrier for budgets

Best for budgets
infantino convertible baby carrier

Price is accurate as of post date. Read full disclaimer.

The Infantino Flip 4-in-1 adjustable carrier meets all your basic baby-carrying needs for a fraction of the usual price. Designed with infants and older babies in mind, this carrier lets you carry your little one on your front in an inward- or outward-facing position, as well as on your back.

The Infantino Flip includes a bib to protect you and the carrier from spit-up, and it’s machine washable for those inevitable diaper blowouts. The biggest caution is this structured carrier isn’t as comfortable as some of the pricier models. If you’re wearing it for very long periods of time or to soothe your baby, it might not work for you.

4. BabyBjörn One: Best baby carrier for adjustability

BabyBjörn One
$279.99

The BabyBjörn is the classic carrier that started them all. The lightweight BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One is also highly rated for how easy it is to put on and adjust.

But keep in mind that it doesn’t have any pockets, so you’ll have to grab a bag to carry things. And it isn’t designed to wear for long periods of time. If you’re planning on wearing your baby for more time than it takes to walk the dog or pick up some groceries, this isn’t the right carrier for you. But for quick errands requiring free hands, this carrier is the easiest to get on and off.

The easiest-to-use traditional wrap on the market, the Boba Wrap is great for those seeking a more classic baby-wearing style. This wrap will make it easy to breastfeed in public and soothe colicky little ones. It’s also very affordable and washable, so you don’t need to be afraid to use it every day. It will stretch out over time, so it may not be the best fit for toddlers or larger babies that require more support.

Final word

There's a lot to consider when buying a baby carrier or wrap, but the important thing is to find one that you feel confident using and that's comfortable for you and your child. We think you'll like the LILLEbaby, but all of the baby carriers on our list are excellent choices in their own right.

Baby carrier and wrap FAQs

Although comfort is completely subjective, the Ergobaby Omni 360 Baby Carrier is consistently praised by users for being comfortable to wear.

Try the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier One. It's easy to put on and adjust.

Hip dysplasia (misalignment of the hip joint) is a common concern for parents who use baby carriers. Most infant carriers and wraps hold babies in positions that are natural to their hip development and will not cause problems.

But the best way to find out what will keep your baby’s joints safe is to check with your doctor.

A baby sling is a variation on a wrap that usually has a hoop or ring securing the fabric across the shoulder. You won’t find a ring sling on our list because many experts consider them a safety concern. They can be used inappropriately and can position the baby in a way that makes it difficult for your little one to breathe.

Pregnancy and birth can do a number on your body, especially your spine. If you’re a parent that has lower back pain, make sure you look for a carrier that has a snug and wide lumbar support strap. Also, talk to your doctor about exercises that will strengthen your core muscles, so you can avoid further back pain while carrying your baby with or without a carrier.

Parents who love their wraps will tell you that there’s a steep learning curve. We recommend watching video tutorials, reading the instructions a few times, and practising as much as possible. Babywearing International’s Guide to Using a Baby Carrier can also be helpful.

How we reviewed the best baby carriers and wraps

For our review of the best baby carriers and wraps, we looked for caregiver-friendly features like lumbar support, breathable cotton fabric, and even those elusive pockets. We also prioritised baby carriers with multiple positions and larger weight ranges.

We also took into consideration third-party information like user reviews and the International Hip Dysplasia Institute's certifications. But the IHDI doesn't specify whether a product has been reviewed but failed to pass its inspection. We did not want to unfairly ding a product that hadn't been reviewed yet. Therefore, IDHI certification wasn't a primary factor in our ranking.
